Basic Award Definition

Question - What Does The Term Basic Award Mean?

Answer - If you win compensation for unfair dismissal at a Tribunal, your award will be made up of a basic award and a compensatory award. The basic award is calculated by taking the employee's age, years of service and average weekly pay to arrive at a figure. However, the weekly pay figure is limited to a maximum of £240 per week, and the maximum years that will be considered is 20. It can be reduced if the Tribunal thinks you contributed to the dismissal in some way.
